Vsebinski opis projekta

Predlagamo zasnovo, izdelavo in uporabo obsevalne naprave za IJS TRIGA reaktor, ki bi omogočila testiranje komponent in senzorjev pri visoki temperaturi za napredne fisijske in fuzijske reaktorje.

In next generation of fission and fusion reactors, both structural materials and instrumentation will be subject to high radiation and high temperature environment, either in gas or submerged in liquid metal/salt. While many concepts do exist on paper, very few have been tested, mainly due to limited availability of a high temperature irradiation device. In order to advance material science and detector development for novel fission and fusion designs, we propose developing and deploying a new, high temperature irradiation device. The project will commence with WP1 by JSI & CEA reviewing the irradiation requirements in terms of temperature, neutron flux/fluence in Task 1 and review existing heated irradiation devices in Task 2, establish a conceptual design, suitable for implementation at the JSI TRIGA reactor, which will mark the end of WP1. The design phase (WP2) will involve JSI performing a computational analysis of the conceptual design in terms of its effects on neutron and gamma field inside JSI TRIGA irradiation facilities (Task 3) and the neutron activation i.e. neutron induced radioactivity of a material candidates of the heated irradiation device (Task 5). CEA will perform a numerical thermal analysis (Task 4). The last two activities will provide information required for advancing from conceptual to a final design, concluding the WP2. The final design will then undergo manufacturing (WP3), with JSI handling the manufacture of JSI TRIGA specific parts, and CEA handling the irradiation device parts and assemblies. The manufactured device will undergo a qualification phase (WP4), initially in a non-nuclear, laboratory test under representative conditions by CEA, where any potential shortcomings in the design will be identified and addressed. The device will then be qualified at the JSI TRIGA reactor by JSI and CEA, rigorously testing all aspects of its operation, with successful testing concluding the WP4. This will be followed by WP5 the actual experiments where JSI and CEA will test the performance of a miniature fission chamber and a Rayleigh optical fibre detector under heated irradiation conditions. WP6 is dedicated to management, dissemination and reporting.
